Ashes: Stand Alone is a total conversion mod for Doom that requires absolutely nothing else for you to start playing. Unlike other mods, where you need the original game files or to use GZDoom, to play this mod, you only need to unzip the file in a folder and click on the .exe file. And that's it. For all intents and purposes, it is a fully independent video game.

Three games in one

This version of Ashes: Stand Alone allows you to play all three of the saga's games. First, you have the prequel Ashes: Hard Reset, with a modern setting that leans much more towards first-person horror than action. Second is the original game of the saga, Ashes: 2063, set in a post-apocalyptic world full of equal parts bandits and mutants. And, thirdly, you'll be able to play the sequel, Ashes: Afterglow, where you can continue the story of the original game in the same hostile world of the saga. You'll be able to access each of the three games just by double-clicking on their respective .exe files in the folder where you unzipped the game.

Much more than just a mod

Anyone who has ever played Doom or Doom 2 will notice that what Ashes: Stand Alone offers goes far beyond that of a simple mod. The game has many elements that make it similar to titles like Marathon or Strife, such as talking to other characters and choosing different dialogues, a diary where you keep your mission log, or fully functional vehicles. That's right, you'll be able to hop on a motorbike and drive freely through the levels, trying to run over any enemies that get in your way. Few mutants will survive a good running-over.

Loads of original weapons and enemies

As is usual with a totally original setting, Ashes: Stand Alone also has a range of weapons and enemies that are completely different from those found in Doom. In total, you'll have over a dozen different weapons at your disposal, ranging from a simple 9-millimeter pistol to an assault rifle, sawed-off shotguns or a pocket knife. You'll also find more than a dozen enemies to use this arsenal on, such as mutants, gang members from different gangs and other beastly creatures.
